At the White House press secretary podium after a briefing

I recently graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in journalism and a concentration in English. My background is in print and online, however I have had my fair share of multimedia experience as well. Most recently, I was an intern at the McClatchy Washington Bureau in Washington, D.C., covering congress and breaking news in the capital. During that time I also worked at the American Journalism Review national magazine, which covers the media industry and prominent journalists (two of my articles were even picked up by Romenesko). Prior to that, my journalism experience dates back to my junior year of high school when I wrote for the local paper, The Pascack Press. For over two years I wrote a weekly teen-focused column, titled “The Way I see It” and covered events in the area. During my time at Maryland I had two summer internships: first for, a new local news website owned by the North Jersey Media Group, then for, a food news and recipe site with Hearst Digital Media. At both internships I was responsible for creating online content and helping maintain the sites.

I traveled abroad to Rome in the Spring of my junior year, living and learning in another country’s capital. While abroad, I was enrolled in a food writing course where I learned how to properly research and write food-related pieces (ex. a restaurant review, a food memory). It was also during this time that I started my blog, Just Shmying Around
where I chronicled my travels and food adventures.

Though my experiences highlight my journalism abilities, the skills that I have gained from my internships and education have prepared me for many aspects of the print and digital media sphere. I’m personable, communicative and a wonderful story-teller. But above all, my strong base in journalism practices has prepared me to work hard, maintain accuracy and get the job done as quickly as I can.
